Learn how to create a quiz in Slack with Polly

 

Creating Quizzes in Slack

  1. You can create a Polly Quiz in Slack through the Web Dashboard.
  2. If you are in Slack, click on Polly > Create a Polly > Quiz, this should automatically take you to the Polly Web Dashboard and will pop open the Quiz creation modal.
  3. If you are already in the Web Dashboard click on Create > Quiz to open the Quiz creation modal.

  4. In the creation modal, fill out the quiz title, message and completion message fields

  5. Click next to be taken to the quiz questions screen. Here you can:

    1. Add multiple questions to your quiz

    2. Mark the correct answer

    3. Use the drag and drop functionality to sort the questions order

    4. Allow users to add comments to their choices for added context

  6. On the next screen you can configure anonymity and audience results visibility options. These settings are the same ones you use for your other pollys with one difference - the real-time results and show after close settings will only show the respondent's their own quiz results.   7. Click on next to go to the scheduling screen, where you can choose to send the polly right after you finish setup or set a future date/time to publish it. You will also find the option to send automated reminders here. Learn more about reminders here.

  8. The next screen had the following settings:
    1. Audience Selection: use the audience picker field to send the quiz to:
      1. The channel feed: Put in a channel name and select from the options that pop up
      2. As a DM:
        1. Put in a channel name and select "Send polly via direct message" to send the quiz as a DM to all members of the channel.You can also send it as a DM members of multiple channels but adding the channel names in this field.

        2. To send the quiz as a DM to specific individuals, add their names to the audience picker field, the "Send polly via direct message" field will automatically get selected
    2. Web Voting:
      1. Add a web voting link to increase your reach and boost response levels. Choose from:
        1. Public Link: Use this option to allow anyone with the link to access the quiz, ideal for external candidates.
        2. Protected Link: Respondents will need to authenticate using their Slack credentials to access the quiz, use it when you want to keep things in-house.
        3. No Link: Remove the option for web voting, respondents will only be able to take the quiz in Slack
    3. Alias:
      1. Use the Alias field to mask the author's name. You can use a general title for example The L&D Team etc.

  9. When you're ready, hit Send/Schedule Polly to publish the quiz immediately or at the scheduled date/time!

Viewing Quiz Results

Author View

To view Quiz results, go to your web dashboard and click on your Quiz in the feedlist.

This will open up a detailed result view for you with the following options:

  • Top left shows your Quiz title, message, sent/close time
  • Top right shows number of respondents and Live/Close status
  • The results table shows you three tabs:
    • Overview: A quick view of all respondents, time of quiz completion and their score. Click on View Details for a more detailed view for each participant.
    • Questions: A graphical breakdown of each question showing how many people got it right/wrong, ideal for identifying knowledge gaps. Below the graphs you can also see respondent wise detail for each question. Use the previous/next buttons to move between questions.

    • Audience: Shows you question wide breakdown for each respondent along with their score. You can move between different participants by clicking on their initials in the middle or using the previous/next buttons.

Respondent View

If the author has selected Real-Time Results or Show After Close setting, then the respondents will be able to see their results after completing the quiz in Slack or Web (depending on where they took the Quiz) .
