Authoring from chat

There are a number of ways to start a poll in chat. The quickest and easiest way to start a poll, is to start typing @polly  and you'll see the option to either start a quick poll, or start an advanced poll with the Poll Builder.

The quick poll allows you to input the poll question and options directly in the chat, without opening the poll builder. You can use any of the following formats, if you decide not to click on the quick poll option (which pre-populates it for you):

  • @polly What should we order for lunch? pizza, sushi . In this example, the question needs to have a question mark, and the options should be comma separated
  • @polly What should we order for lunch? / pizza / sushi . In this example, the question and each poll option need to be separated by a forward slash
  • @polly “What should we order for lunch?” “pizza” “sushi” . In this example, the question and each option needs to be enclosed in double quotes

The advanced poll option, if clicked, will pop open the Poll Builder, which you can select your question type, input options (if multiple choice), and configure advanced options.

The advanced options and control mirror the options you would see if you were to author from the Polly tab (see below).

This new experience makes it incredibly easy to author polls in Microsoft Teams, without having to know all the syntax for creating directly from chat.

Once you're all set, just hit Create Poll!
