Polly Help in Microsoft Teams

Advanced authoring options

With the new authoring experience in the tab, you get more advanced options for your poll:

  • making a poll anonymous
  • hiding results from the audience
  • voting on multiple options
  • audience adding options

Anonymity

Authoring from chat

By default, all polls are not anonymous. To make a poll anonymous, simply add an [anon] tag after you mention Polly. For example: @polly [anon] “What should we order for lunch?” “pizza” “sushi”

Authoring from the Polly tab

If you are authoring from the pinned Polly tab, at the bottom of the authoring UI you can configure your audience response settings to be anonymous or non-anonymous (default).

Hide Results

Authoring from chat

At this time, the legacy method of creating a poll from the chat does not support hiding the results from the audience. To enable this, you will need to create a poll from the pinned Polly tab.

Authoring from Polly tab

Shown in the above Settings image, the default setting is that results are displayed in real-time in channel. To hide results from the audience, you will need to click on the button that says Don’t share results with the audience. This will hide all votes and comments, and only the author will be able to see the results from the Results tab.

As a non-author, this is what you would see from the results tab for a hidden poll.

Voting on multiple options

Authoring from chat

To create a poll where users can vote more than once, simply do the following prefix the poll question with [multi]. For example:

@polly [multi] “Please which of the following days work for our all-hands” “Monday” “Tuesday” “Wednesday” “Thursday” “Friday”

This will publish a poll, letting users know they can vote more than once.

Authoring from the Polly tab

To allow the audience to vote on multiple options, simply check the box below the question that says Allow multiple votes on this question. This will publish a poll letting users know that they can vote more than once.

Audience can add options

Authoring from chat

At this time, the legacy method of creating a poll from the chat does not support allowing the audience to add options. To enable this, you will need to create a poll from the pinned Polly tab.

Referring to the above image, the audience cannot add options by default. By clicking on Enabled, the poll will post and there will be a button to add a poll option as shown below.

As the audience member, when you click Add Poll Option, a dialog box will appear right below where you can submit your poll option.
