Polly Help in Slack

Saving your own survey templates

A template is a survey or a poll with saved settings that you can use any time in the future.  This can be useful to save off something you’re not ready to send yet, or to save a bunch of questions and settings that expect to use frequently.  From the authoring page, at the bottom left you’ll see the ability to save your existing form into a template.

If it’s a poll, when you hit save, you’ll be prompted to enter a title and description for your template. We will save off all your settings – recurrence, anonymity, questions, etc.

Note: Saving custom polls and surveys as templates for future use is only available for Polly teams on a paid plan. The exception is that you are a legacy Polly user and already had templates saved to your library prior to the change. Learn more

Polly Templates

We’ve also got a number templates that have been researched by industry experts, like our Team Happiness Pulse Survey, and others that we’ve seen being used by our ecosystem of users, like a mid-sprint check-in for product and engineering teams.  We’ve made all of these available to Polly users with a single click, and we expect to be adding more templates on a regular basis.  Add these templates to your library so you can easily deploy them to individuals or teams.

Do note that there are some premium templates that are only available for Polly teams on a paid plan, as noted by the premium plan logo on the thumbnail. Learn more

Template Library

Once you’ve saved off one of your own survey templates, or added a Polly template, they are available to you in your library.  Clicking on an item in your library will take you to the authoring UI with all the necessary fields filled in.  Select the channel you’d like to poll, pick the appropriate time, make any modifications, and send off the survey.

Accessing and deploying templates directly from Slack

In order to deploy a template directly from Slack, simply invoke the /polly template command. You’ll be presented with a dropdown of all your saved templates.  Just grab the template you want to use and send it off.

Click on “Customize before sending” link if you’d like to update any settings before sending things off.

Template FAQ

How do I delete a template from my Library?

If you hover over the template in your library, you’ll see a trash icon in the bottom right hand corner. By clicking that, a window will pop open asking you to confirm that you want to delete the selected template. Once it’s gone, you can’t recover it – so make sure that you really want to delete it!

How do I modify an existing template?

If there’s a template that you’d like to change out some of the questions to, just click on the desired template. It will bring up the Authoring UI and you’re free to change out whatever you wish. Once you’re all set, just click on the Update Template button at the bottom of the page to save your changes.

How do I make a copy of a template I already have in my library?

Similar process to deleting a template; by hovering over the desired template, you will see a duplication icon in the bottom right hand corner. Clicking on it will duplicate the template and will bring up a window that will prompt you to change the title, if you so wish to distinguish the two.

I have an idea for a template that would be useful for the Polly ecosystem. Can you add it?

Send us your idea and we’ll add it to the global library. We’ll even give you credit for it!
